The Republic of Korea Navy's (ROKN) recent success in the Gulf of Aden is to be made into a movie by one of the Republic of Korea's major film companies, Christmas Entertainment, whose major productions have included the internationally distributed 'The Host.'
The non-fiction film is expected to deal with Operation Dawn of Gulf of Aden which saw the ROKN's 4,500-ton ROKS Choi Young (DDH-981) and UDT/SEAL's engage in one of the most successful counter-piracy operations in recent memory, as the ROKN succeeded in rescuing all 21 hostages from a vessel hijacked by Somali pirates, eight of whom were killed and five of whom were arrested and currently face trial in a ROK court.
US$20 million has been budgeted for the film which is expected to begin filming in September 2011 and released worldwide in February 2012.
